Defensive Handgun Workshop
This two-day course covers:
In our two-day specialty firearm training courses you will be exposed to over twenty hours of comprehensive training where you will learn and refine a wide variety of defensive handgun techniques. This course starts with basic handgun marksmanship and progressively moves through defensive shooting techniques, shooting on the move, multiple target engagements, weapons handling in a close quarter environment, defensive posturing, creating space, and applying all of these things in daylight and low-light environments. This course is designed to make you a more well-rounded and proficient shooter. At the conclusion of this two day course, you will get to test your skills against our Cowtown Marksmanship Program Handgun Standards test. Those that succeed in passing this demanding test will earn a specialty reward showing that they have met “The Standard”.
Course Prerequisites: Basic Handgun
This is an open enrollment course. Military or Law-Enforcement only courses are available upon request.
Fee: $900 ($820 for Active Cowtown Range members, Military, and Law-Enforcement)
Required Equipment:
- Eye and Ear protection
- Handgun
- 2-3 spare magazines (more is better but not required)
- Minimum of 1 spare magazine holder
- Appropriate holster specific to your equipment (IWB holsters require instructor approval)
- Handheld or Weapon mounted light
- Training tourniquet (available for purchase on site if you do not have one)
- 1000 rounds of training ammunition (more rounds means more reps)
- Note-taking material

This course starts with basic carbine marksmanship and progressively moves through defensive shooting techniques, shooting on the move, multiple target engagements, weapons handling in a close quarter environment, defensive posturing, creating space, and applying all of these things in daylight and low-light environments. This course is designed to make you a more well-rounded and proficient shooter. At the conclusion of this two day course, you will get to test your skills against our Cowtown Marksmanship Program Carbine Standards test. Couples Defense Training
This two-day course covers:
In our two day specialty firearms training courses you and your significant other will learn how to work as a team to remain safe in a dangerous and chaotic environment. You will learn tactics and techniques to more effectively traverse dynamic environments. We will cover a progressive schedule of handgun and carbine marksmanship starting with basic marksmanship, and progressing to multiple target engagements, shooting on the move, weapons handling in close quarters environments, and low-light shooting and movement techniques. You and your partner will learn how to shoot, move, and communicate as a team to be overall more proficient and safe in dangerous situations.
